Josh began his musical studies as soon as he could hold his mothers neglected classical guitar. The sound of a strings vibration soon became a life long infatuation that eventually spread from the guitar to the upright bass and mandolin. While his earliest musical studies took the form of lessons on guitar, cello and trumpet; the gritty sounds of punk rock soon took hold. After dropping all academic musical pursuits Josh spent years playing in punk and hardcore bands. After living in a house less than conducive to rockin’ out he again picked up the acoustic and a new musical direction was forged. He picked up the mandolin in 2002, a decision which he now regards as one of the best of his life Currently Josh is an active luthier, performing stringed instrument repair and construction out of Sioux Falls. He is also a full-time graduate student at USD studying double bass (a.k.a. Bull Fiddle) and music history. In addition to blastin’ the mando with Snakebeard, Josh is actively performing on double bass in folk, jazz and classical settings.
